“Casa Copilariei” Daycare Center

Autism involves a different approach of the world!
Through therapy, play, learning, depending on the needs of each child, we help them acquire the necessary tools to understand their world and communicate with others.

What do we want?

We want to create the right environment, to offer the opportunity and the assistance to carry out various activities for children with autism.

Through these activities, areas such as socialization and communication will be the most favored in the created context. We create situations to encourage independence in each child and the interaction between children.

Why?

Activities within the daycare center are aimed to contribute to every child’s physical and mental development. Each activity will have a built-in educational component, so that children can enjoy the activity itself but also learn something new.

Various activities will help children develop future preferences, skills and provide opportunities to generalize (person, stimulus, context, request etc.) the acquired information.

Activities will be adapted to each child’s level of development to improve or/and increase the level of acquired skills and the social relationships and communication.

Activities

Play is the main activity of a child and, as a quote says, the beginning of knowledge because it offers the best opportunities to learn and develop skills such as physical coordination, fine motor skills and cooperation, communication and creativity.

An image can be the starting point of a discussion (e.g. puzzles); in other cases the discussion can be the final outcome (e.g. after finishing building something from blocks). There can be frequent opportunities for joint projects.

Art is the easiest way for children with autism to express their creativity and talent. The current program will include activities such as painting, modeling, coloring, collage, music. These types of activities will improve dexterity and fine sensory development. Various materials will be utilized, children can be exposed to different stimuli, enriching their palette of preferences.

Initially, the activities can be a part of a routine that will help children to anticipate and also help create a safe environment. Over time, variations will be incorporated to develop tolerance to change.

The materials can be constantly varied so that everyone to be able to show new behaviors while using different materials.

We want to work with families and educators, children’s teachers so we can identify and set priorities for each child and constantly evaluate the program to make permanent improvements for each and one of them.

The coordinator’s role is, besides offering justified help to children in their tasks, to facilitate interaction and independence in every child.
